Recordings

Where it is: Studio → Encoding and recording · Side menu → RecordingsIncluded in every account

Studio records what's in your scene at full quality, while you stream or without streaming. Recordings and clips stay on your computer, in the Recordings section.

How do I record?

From Studio's Encoding and recording block:

  1. 1Check that the capture is Active (without capture you can't record).
  2. 2Press ● Start recording.
  3. 3If your scene has a dual canvas, choose what you want to record: only 16:9, only 9:16 or both (two files, one per orientation).
  4. 4To finish, press ◼ Stop recording.

Which format does it record in? MKV or MP4?

You choose the format when recording:

  • MKV: survives a power cut or an unexpected close; what was recorded up to that point isn't lost.
  • MP4: the format every editor and network accepts; open it and upload it without converting anything. If Studio closes mid-recording, that file can't be opened.

Where are recordings saved?

On your computer. You see them in Recordings, in the side menu: you can watch them, open their folder or take them to Clips IA. The folder button on the recording block also opens that folder.

What is a clip and how long does it last?

A clip is the last few seconds of what happened, saved with Studio's Save clip button, with no need to be recording. They show up in Recordings.

You set the length in Settings → Preferences → Clip duration.

I got “The audio has cut out”. What do I do?

It usually happens when switching speakers or headphones mid-recording. The video keeps recording, but from that point it's silent. Stop the recording and start another with the new device already connected.
