Troubleshooting

Where it is: When something isn't working

The most common problems and how to fix them. If yours isn't here, write to us from Contact telling us what happened and your Studio version.

The screen capture is black or doesn't show in the scene

  • In the layer's Settings, check that the right monitor is chosen in Screen being captured.
  • Remove the layer and add it again.
  • If you capture a full-screen game and it's black, try the game or window layer instead of the screen one.
  • Update Studio to the latest version from the Microsoft Store (Library → Get updates): the issues when switching monitors mid-stream are fixed since 0.1.29.

YouTube doesn't start the stream

  • With the dual stream: the vertical has to be set to “Encoder” in YouTube Studio, with its key in the vertical destination and both destinations on. If you won't send vertical, set “Auto crop” and turn the dual stream off.
  • Check in YouTube Studio that the vertical hasn't gone back to “Auto crop” by itself.
  • Wait a few minutes: YouTube takes a while to go from “Preparing stream” to “Live”.

The title didn't reach a network

When you go live, Studio tells you which destinations the title didn't reach. The most common causes:

  • That network's account isn't connected in Livestreaming (without an account you still stream, but with no title).
  • On Twitch, you have to reconnect the account to grant the new permission.
  • On TikTok, the title goes through Restream: link your account with Connect with Restream.

If a network doesn't allow it, the Stream dialog lets you copy the title to paste it by hand.

The stream drops or stutters

  • Lower the bitrate in Livestreaming → Emission: it's usually your internet upload.
  • With multistream, every network adds up: try fewer networks or lower quality.
  • Use the graphics card as the encoder and hide the preview with the eye.
  • Streaming over a cable instead of WiFi makes the connection much more stable.

If you turn on Streaming notifications, Windows warns you when a platform drops or a lot of frames are lost.

The mic can't be heard, or it's heard twice

  • In Studio's mixer, check whether the channel moves when you talk and whether it's muted.
  • If you changed devices, add the new one with + Add channel: a disconnected device leaves its channel silent.
  • If it's heard twice, the same sound is probably coming in through two channels (for example, the mic and the speaker where your mic is playing): remove or mute one.

Studio isn't responding or closed by itself

  • Update to the latest version from the Microsoft Store (Library → Get updates): each version fixes known freezes.
  • If it keeps happening, write to us from Contact with your Studio version, what you were doing and whether you were live: with that we can look for the cause.
